Tene was born in Detroit, MI and has danced since age four. She is an energetic and outgoing. Tene's desire to express herself has driven her passion for dance and given her a remarkable creative outlet. Tene' studied dance throughout her adolescence years perfecting her craft and developing her ability to share her talent and skill of dance with others. With an inviolable performance background, Tene' has studied several genres of dance including African, Jazz, Modern, Dunham, and Tap. While attaining her undergraduate degree at Michigan State University, Tene' never lost her love for dancing.
Tene' moved to New York City in the summer of 1996, where she studied with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater for the summer intensive program. Though she loves to perform, Tene' found her calling in education. She taught Language Arts to third graders at Sankofa Shule. At the African American Museum Education Department, she led guests on interactive tours and created workshops. With the Detroit Recreation Department she created after school programming and summer camps. In addition to teaching young people modeling, acting and personal development at Barbizon School of Modeling. Although dance was never far from her heart. She started The House of Bastet in 2005, with the intent of providing fun, uplifting, challenging, and effective modeling, dance fitness classes to young girls and women in Detroit. It has been her lifelong dream to own and operate a dance studio offering a variety of dance including fitness formats that have helped her maintain a healthy and fit body.
Tene' is a certified yoga instructor, relaxation therapist, Reiki Master, Health Coach and Certified Group Fitness Instructor through the American Council on Exercise (ACE), Nutrition & Weight Loss Specialist and Empowerment Coach.
Tene' truly believes that dance and movement has the ability to nurture the spirit, focus the mind and strengthen the body. This is evident in her high energy classes where her infectious smile, encouraging words and positive energy will almost make you forget you're even exercising!
Currently Tene' goes by DJ Lovebeam and curates soundscapes to dance with diverse rhythms of the African diaspora, house, Neo-soul and old school disco and funk. You are guaranteed and exciting and visceral experience to motivate your body, relax your mind and revitalize your soul.
I am a dancer/choreographer committed to creating transformative and inspired storytelling experiences through movement that fuse cultural dance forms.
Tene’, also known as DJ Lovebeam, was also the DJ for Detroit Rocks the Runway.
I combine various forms of music from the African Diaspora such as Afro House, Jazz, R&B, Soca, and Techno.
